I'm a professional speaker and I have traveled to Israel (as a tour leader) on multiple occasions. and I have a close friend with a Ph.D. in Hebrew from Duke Divinity School, and he and I get together every Tuesday to discuss the Hebrew Scriptures. So... what I'm about to say about this little treasure trove of a book that is more like a children's book than an academic workbook may surprise you.First, it over-delivers on its promise. Granted, I have more background than most readers, but classic Hebrew as taught in higher learning institutions is short on pronunciation and long on grammar. In a span of just six hours of reading the digital version, I was reading Hebrew with a modern pronunciation. When it comes to Yod and Khof and Viv and a host of other vowel SOUNDS, the pictographic illustrations in this book forever settled that I will not revert to academic pronunciations that sounds more Spanish than Hebrew. For those who say, "But I don't even know the Hebrew alphabet!" the "Six Week's" promise may apply, but you can absolutely put your trust in the author's promise.Second, the writing is clear (and funny), and though I read 16th century English tomes and am accustomed to the dry and dull narrative of most linguistic writers, I found that laughing at pictures fires more neurons in my brain than rote repetition of vowel charts.
